The Deck |
On The Deck will host my daily observations of the construction of the Southern Districts Exhibit at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Hopefully you will find this an interesting interlude into how the District Exhibits are put together.
Each Exhibit has a manager, designer(s) and a large band of volunteers’ (of which I am one). There are five District Exhibits in total, Central, Southern, South East Queensland, Northern and Western. Each representing an area within NSW.
There are two main judging competitions, People’s Choice (voted for on the first day of the show) and District Exhibit which includes produce judging as well as the display.
Our designer is Margie Fitzpatrick from Goulburn NSW. Margie’s theme for this year is Urban Harvest. Looking into the sense of community when sharing produce and ideas and working together on a communal gardens or in your own backyard veggie garden.
Three ducks |
Today with the help of our two industrious carpenters, Paul and Dennis, the main backdrops were installed. While I spent time seeding the ducks, and adding wool to the cat’s tail amongst other hard-working activities like taping plastic down and sweeping (a never ending job on the deck).
I wish I could come back and see all these displays. I was very impressed by the educational exhibits that were at the show in Melbourne. Good luck!
